An outdoor, socially-distanced piece by Lupine Performance Cooperative for the 2020 Fringe Festival
Alex and Rhodes haven't spoken in over a year. In that year, the dragons have been defeated, the gnomes have begun their mourning period, the giants and pixies are setting up camps, and the humans are scrambling to figure out how these visitors arrived. Go on a walk through Powelton Village - Alex and Rhodes’ old stomping ground - and listen to the two former friends’ voicemails as they lead you through a twisting, fantastical alternate future of Philadelphia.
Designed to be listened to on a mobile device with headphones, Field Calls is a solo audience experience moving through the neighborhood of Powelton Village in West Philadelphia. Accessible options for audience members who are Deaf or hard of hearing are available.
Upon reserving a ticket, you will receive a welcome email with additional instructions that include the starting location of the piece and how to access the artistic material.
This is a solo-audience experience that is best enjoyed by people who like being outside, and enjoy walking/moving. Social distancing is required to participate in this piece. Please wear a face mask.
Field Calls runs approximately an hour at an average walking pace.
“Writer Tenara Calem’s references to the neighborhood made me pay more attention to the intimate environment, noting the architecture and spaces as I imagined pixie dust covering the sidewalk, giant encampments blocking the streets, and dragon scorches on dilapidated buildings. As I reached the end of [Field Calls], I found myself wistfully looking out at the city much like the characters do, reflecting on how I, too, might explain the changes Philadelphia has experienced in the past six months. It’s still here. We’re still here. And we’re attempting to pick up the pieces as we go.”
